CRCP Gala 2020

Thanks to generous sponsors, donors, and more than 200 guests, the Gala raised $300,000 to support deserving students and their families in the form of tuition assistance and scholarships.

It was a momentous evening at Cardinal Ritter College Prep’s 9th Annual “Celebrating 40 Years of Success in Urban Education” Gala on February 19th, 2020 at the Coronado Ballroom. Thanks to generous sponsors, donors, and more than 200 guests, the Gala raised $300,000 to support deserving students and their families in the form of tuition assistance and scholarships.

The memorable event was led by Master of Ceremonies, Michael McMillan, President/Chief Executive Officer of the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis. The CRCP Gospel Choir inspired the audience by singing the opening prayer for the evening and the CRCP Jazz Ensemble impressed all guests with special performances throughout the evening. CRCP President Tamiko Armstead inspired the audience with her State of the School Address, Archbishop Carlson reflected upon the 40th anniversary of CRCP, and 1988 CRCP alumnus Colonel Elvert Gardner spoke to the impact of CRCP on his life and accomplishments:

“I come from a single parent home and during my childhood lived in a housing project not far from Cardinal Ritter. Having so many inspiring leaders around me at Cardinal Ritter was a powerful influencer in molding me. I firmly believe in this key rule: In order to be successful, you need to see successful. If I can humbly suggest that my life and career have been successful, it is because I am Ritter Made. My experience at Cardinal Ritter is not unique, it is representative. It is representative of what can happen when you come from humble beginnings but are afforded access to an elite education that fuels your mind, your spirit, and your character. Now, my wife and I through our foundation have provided scholarships to numerous college bound students including Cardinal Ritter graduates. I can personally attest that you will never receive a better return on your investment than when you invest in a Cardinal Ritter education,” said Col. Gardner.

Featured student speaker Victoria Hershey, class of 2020, inspired guests with an impassioned speech and shared the impact of Cardinal Ritter on her future, earning her a standing ovation: “Cardinal Ritter has supported me in countless ways by guiding me through high school and my transition between foster homes. I found my forever home which is the Cardinal Ritter family. I have been used to losing people in my life but Cardinal Ritter has given me a foundation of leadership, academic excellence and faith to carry with me through life. Cardinal Ritter gave me ambition and allowed me to see I am more than a statistic, and that I can succeed in college and make something of myself. My future aspirations are to attend college, major in business, and start my own organization that supports foster kids, and kids who have been through any type of trauma. My goal is to make sure that foster kids are being supported and have a way out for a better life, like Cardinal Ritter provided me. I want to thank you for supporting this wonderful institution that has given me a great education, dreams for my future, and a new beginning.”

Archbishop Carlson challenged all those in attendance to remain steadfast to their commitment to Academic Excellence, Faith Development, and Leadership Training. CRCP is so grateful to our generous supporters. All proceeds will provide vital support for CRCP’s financial assistance and scholarship opportunities.
